View of Edinburgh, after El Greco

View of Edinburgh, after El Greco

Mixed media and pastels on archival paper

Calton Hill provides stunning panoramic views of the dramatic city of Edinburgh. The mixture of architecture styles there reminds Mr.J of El Greco (1541-1614) and his ‘View and Plan of Toledo’ with its striking expanse of sky.

This work features his own version of an El Greco sky with an attentive use of colour; he purposefully incorporated an intense blue to create a feeling of calm and order.
