ABOUT US

The BirdsNest Gallery

Preserving Tradition, Nurturing the New

Founded in 2020, the BirdsNest Gallery is an eclectic cultural hub located in the Southside of Edinburgh. Our unique Victorian venue houses exhibition spaces, a mini-cinema, an active artist studio, and an extensive library. We facilitate innovative quarterly exhibitions alternating between a focus on our featured contemporary artists and our robust collection, which is made up of over 300 artworks dating back to the early 19th century.

Our unique name originated from a bird’s nest found by Natalia (Sho) Brand, the founder of the BirdsNest enterprise; the nest was completely intact after falling from a tree in the gallery’s garden. A reminder of Vincent van Gogh’s artworks, the bird’s nest became more than an object; it has served as a symbol ever since of hope and home amidst challenges and suffering.

Our guiding motto is “preserving tradition, nurturing the new”. Our gallery seeks out emerging artistic talents while boasting works by the greats, from Elizabeth Blackadder to Robert Sawyers. We strive to offer an incredible balance of old and new, Scottish and international, and classical and avant-garde art when it comes to the scope of the work we collect and display.

Through hosting a wide variety of events, publishing an arts magazine, and more, we wish to cultivate a “petite Renaissance” in Edinburgh and would love for you to be a part of it. Recognised as a space for sharing hope, beauty, and a creative spark, we take pride in our role as a cultural epicentre in the city.
