Robert Powell is renowned for his whimsical and detailed paintings, prints, installations, and sculptures. His unmistakable vision is darkly satirical, revealing the intricacies of humanity’s grandeur and folly. Drawing influence from Hogarth, Bosch, Ensor, Goya, and Japanese Ukiyo-e artists of the Edo period, Powell's unique wit and scholarly attentiveness separate his art from the rest. Powell is based in Edinburgh and trained at Edinburgh College of Art. He has exhibited in the UK, Canada, and Japan; he has also undertaken residencies in Japan and received numerous awards, such as the SSA Deloitte Award (2015), SSA Engramme Exchange (2013), and RSA Benno Schotz Award (2011).
