St Giles Cathedral, after Munch

St Giles Cathedral, after Munch

Mixed media and pastels on archival paper

St Giles sits like a magical crown in the centre of Edinburgh’s High Street, and Mr.J has often visited this bastion of Presbyterianism which has been such a feature in his life.

The expressive colours of painter Edvard Munch (1863-1944) have deeply inspired him, particularly those found in his skies. Within this piece, Mr.J has tried to create a golden cathedral, full of energy, set against an expressive sky.
