Salisbury Crags and Arthur Seat, after O'Keeffe
Mixed media and pastels on archival paper
The creative strength of Georgia O’Keeffe (1887-1986) is presenting the simple things in life with intensity. A desert skull, with its jagged edges, worn surfaces, and bleached colour, becomes a monument to evolution.
Arthur’s Seat, an extinct volcano, and Salisbury Crags, peaks marked by an ancient lava flow, provide a suitable backdrop for this great painter of desert scenes, showing that O’Keeffe’s spirit dwells in Edinburgh also.
